NEW PLAYER IN MASS CASINO LICENCES?
In Massachusetts, Clairvest Group, a Canadian private equity management firm that operates casinos and racetracks in Canada and the U.S., is the latest company to bet they can win a gambling license in the Bay State.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby said Clairvest, a publicly traded company based in Toronto, met with commission staff and consultants this week in the first step to apply for a license. Clairvest officials did not specify if they would seek a slot machine parlor or a resort casino license, Crosby said. It was also unclear where Clairvest would look to build.
If Clairvest wants to build a slot parlor and not a full-fledged casino, it might solve a mystery that surfaced earlier this month when an unidentified developer expressed interest in opening a slots parlor in Milford. Walter Sullivan, a Boston attorney, had sent a letter to Milford’s town administrator seeking a meeting to discuss his unidentified client’s interest in developing a slots parlor there.

ONLINE POKER LEGISLATION BACKED BY MOHEGANS
It seems that the political need of reducing the debt may be the opening made possible for web gaming. Legislation that would legalize some forms of online gaming, namely poker, while increasing oversifght of the industry has already been drafted for Congress when it convenes this month. Mohegan Sun casino strongly supports the legalization of online poker. "We believe in poker only and having people gamble on slots at home is not the business we are in," Chuck Bunnell, chief of staff for the tribe explains. "We're in the business of creating a resort experience, not the "in-home" gaming experience that would be detrimental to the men and women that count on the tribe for their employment..."

That's all for now!  Tomorrow is Foxwoods Friday.
